Why has our local government failed?

I live in a City which is ran mainly by Democrats. Some of the Laws are outright rediculous! First of all; There is this law where you must shovel snow from the sidewalk in front of your house! But one problem; The sidewalk belongs to the city government! I guess they are to afraid of the cold! Next is the Smoking ban. This is a stupid law! If you know they allow smoking in certain buildings; Don’t Go there! Its that simple! Not to mention the contaminants that the government is allowing to be put in our food is just as bad or even worse! More and more people are seeing the light and switching to an organic diet. All of our good paying jobs are either in Mexico or on their way!!!! I do not hold this against all Democrats. But why have the one’s in my city failed miserably? Why are we sending our jobs to other countries? Why not let a man make at least enough money to care for his family? When you already have kids; Its tough to go to school and work at the same time!
This question is not a "hate" question directed at the Dems! I am very Bi-partisan and have an open mind when it comes to politics!

The loom was declared public property in 1806, and Jacquard was rewarded with a pension and a royalty on each machine.

Technology is a double edge sword. It can displace jobs and threaten people’s livelihoods. The Internet makes it easy to communicate with someone far away. It also makes it easy for corporations to relocate jobs to countries with cheaper labour (India, China, Philippines, etc.).

I would like to start a disscussion on the pros and cons of "offshore outsourcing". Should the local government place limits on outsourcing?

I am in a local government position where me and my co-worker have the same position title, but I fear being labeled a "slacker" because he often puts out 110% for the work that he does. I hate competition, but I do the best that I can. Yet, I often get outfoxed by him, because he is more outgoing than myself.

Do I need to find a new job, if it frustrates me that much?

Taxes are not what the government spends, they are what the government has already spent. The government sells Treasury Bonds at interest to raise money, and local governments sell municipal bonds. These bonds are tax free. When taxes and interest are low, that’s the government putting money into the private sector. When taxes are interest are high, that’s the government putting money into the public sector. High taxes are not meant to raise tax revenue, they are meant to increase purchases of Treasury and Municipal bonds. These bonds fund public works projects, projects that give Americans jobs and businesses well paid consumers.
So cons, wouldn’t then high taxes and interest rates force money out of stocks and into bonds creating jobs? Couldn’t out infrastructure be revamped and improved and energy independence achieved through public works projects? Wouldn’t the jobs created tighten the labor market and raise wages for workers in the public sector? And wouldn’t that be good for business whereas now businesses are hurting? Cutting taxes worked for Reagan due to economic stagnation however we can see there is a law of diminishing returns as far as tax cuts go. Shouldn’t the taxes go up?

I just graduated with a MBA from a local school and would really love to get a job with the federal government. I don’t have alot of experience to go with my education. My questions #1 I read GS- 9 positions are for people with a Master’s degree…do I have to apply for GS-9 to be considered for employment? #2 Is there a simpler or more effective way to apply other than through USAjobs? I’ve put in quite a few applications there and I haven’t received anything other than an automated response so far. #3 I live in the states but would love to work in a different country for a few years (one of the reasons I’ve been looking to government jobs). Is it easy to make a move once you get your foot into the door? Thank you for any help…
